Program Costs

As we start our new Scout calendar year September 1st, we like for all Scout parents to understand the annual costs of the program.

New scouts joining Pack 42 are prorated from the month of signing up to December 31. When the Pack "recharters," the balance of the registration costs are paid.  Another option is to pay the full-cost of the program up-front.

ANNUAL COST BREAKDOWN

The largest outlay of funds is paid to BSA and the local Council.  The Pack does NOT receive any of these funds, but benefits from events, trainings, administrative support, curriculum and liability insurance.

Annual registration in 2022 is $78

New Scouts are assessed a one-time fee of $25.

Scouts are offered an optional subscription to the Boys Life Magazine for an additional $12

New Scout (w/o magazine subscription):  $103
Returning Scouts (w/o magazine subscription):  $78

Additionally, to support Pack activities, as well as the cost of Scout beltloops, pins, and badges will be an additional $60 per year, pro-rated monthly.

Bringing to a total of $163 with optional $12 Scout Life Magazine for a TOTAL $175 for NEW SCOUTS or $138 with optional $12 Scout Life Magazine for a TOTAL of $150 for RETURNING SCOUTS.

Parents are also encouraged to acquire a shirt for their Scout, as well as the appropriate handbook for their Cub's rank.  However, these items can often be purchased second-hand and/or the Pack may even have shirts and handbooks available to pass on from older Scouts.  Neither the uniform nor the handbook is a requirement.

Council events such as Fall, Spring and Summer camps are paid separately for above cost and families will also incur costs for field trips, family camping and the Pinewood derby.

WE WILL STRIVE TO KEEP THE YEAR AS AFFORDABLE AS POSSIBLE and utilize fundraising tools to decrease costs.   Last year, one of our Cubs sold 100 Camp Cards andnot only earned enough money to pay for their 2022 registration, but also theirnew handbook and uniform shirt, and qualified for a free week of Cub ScoutCamp.   The first year of Scouting can be expensive (BUT REMEMBER -IT'S YEAR ROUND!), but your Scout can "Earn their way!"
